Olesen's British Masters rollercoaster

Thorbjorn Olesen stepped onto the first tee on Sunday with a three-stroke lead. One nervy tee shot and he’s clinging onto a single with a single stroke by his fingertips. As the Dane missed his par putt on the 9th, we heard the dreaded phrase ‘The good news is, he can’t play any worse on the back-nine’; something every golfer knows simply isn’t true!

And, in pretty quick order, Olesen was two behind. Walking up The Belfry’s par-5 17th, he felt almost out of the mix. Good time for an eagle then, right? With one flourish of the flatstick, the 32-year-old was back tied for the lead. All he needed to do from there was hole a monster putt on the 18th, which he did with authority.

We know it can get worse on the back-nine, but if you’re going to win on the DP World Tour you need to be able to walk up to the 17th with belief, no matter how tough the going gets. All we can do is sit back and applaud that.
